The Sun

wpe2.gif (30539 bytes) The sun’s power staggers the imagination. In just one second our sun which is but a medium size star and but one of 100 billion stars in the Milky Way Galaxy radiates more energy than man has used since the beginning of time. The sun delivers to us in a few days as much heat and light as would be produced by burning all the oil and coal in the world plus all the wood in the forests. Yet the earth only receives one half of one billionth of the sun’s radiant energy! Atomic energy makes the sun shine so brilliantly as hydrogen atoms collide and unite to form helium giving off bursts of energy.

so01038_1.wmf (17342 bytes)It is estimated that at the sun’s center, close to a half million miles deep, the temperature is 16 million degrees and the pressure 100 billion atmospheres. A bit of the sun’s center the size of a pinhead would give off enough heat to kill a man 100 miles away! The sun is quite a bit cooler on its surface though—about 5,700 degrees! The temperature does rise again into the millions in the atmosphere surrounding the sun.

What a tremendous display of God’s power and energy! (And remember the sun is only a middle size star. Rigel is 15,000 times brighter than the sun. Thirty-six million suns could fit into the giant star Antares!) What can we learn from such power and energy?

Do you ever feel weak, powerless, tired, and weary? Beyond the sun is a God Who is infinitely greater and more powerful. There is no end to what He can do. His power is unlimited and He delights to exercise His infinite power and energy toward those who will realized their weakness and trust in Him. I cannot, but God can. I am unable, but God is infinitely able. There is nothing that God cannot do.

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon (who habitually trust in) the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.                                              Isaiah 40:28-31

Is the living God your power source?

Have you come to trust in Him as your only God and Saviour from sin?
