Your Insides

Can you describe how your house looks? You are probably thinking about how the outside of your house looks. But if you have watched a building go up, you know that the outside is the cover for a strong, stiff framework of wood or steel. Your body, like your house is built around an inner framework, the skeleton. Your skeleton is made of bone.

Most of your body is soft material, such as muscle, and soft organs, such as the brain or stomach. Without support from your 206 skeletal bones, you would be a shapeless mass, like a jellyfish.

So it is what is inside that counts. A strong inside supports and makes possible a strong outside.

This is true of our spiritual life also. God first made man without sin, but by disobedience to God, sin and death were brought into the world. All of us are sinners (Romans 3:23). All of us do wrong. Sin comes from the inside. The Lord Jesus said, "... from within, out of the heart comes evil thoughts... murders, thefts, greed, wickedness, lies, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness." We all have bad insides and that is why we do bad things on the outside.

We need some help. But we cannot help ourselves. Neither can anyone else help us. We need help from God. God Who first made man without sin will make us over again. He will give a brand-new life on the inside (2 Corinthians 5:17). He will forgive our sins and He Himself will come to live within us.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17

A gypsy once offered "new lamps for old." The Lord Jesus offers a new life for an old life. But we must want a new life. We must by faith ask the Lord Jesus Who paid for our sins on the cross to come into our life as our only God and only Saviour from sin. Then He will begin to build a new structure on the inside that will show up as a happy, well-ordered life on the outside.

But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons [children] of God, even to them that believe on His Name. Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. [John 1:12-13]
