The Elephant
What baby is three feet tall and weighs 200
pounds at birth? It is the baby elephant. But don't worry, after a few years little junior
will weigh six tons--12,000 pounds! You cannot miss an elephant. Its sheer size says
"pay attention to me. I am somebody!"
An elephant's foot has five toes, and the
elephant walks on the tops of these rather than on the nails. The bones of his feet are
protected by a sort of spongy sole. When the elephant rests all his weight on it, it gives
like a sponge and expands when the foot is lifted. It is like a shock absorber!
How much does God weigh? That is an
interesting question. God cannot be measured. God cannot be limited. There is no scale
that could weigh Him and come up with a number of pounds. God is infinitely big!
There is a word in the Bible that speaks of God's weight! It is the word, "glory." God's glory is God's weight and wealth and worth. God's glory is God's greatness, God's beauty, God's importance. Isaiah, the prophet tells us how wonderfully great God is in chapters 40-48. Read them for yourself. Here is some of it--
[God] hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span... Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him? ...Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket... All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him? ...Thus saith the LORD... I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself... Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God... There is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me... To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One?
God is a very wonderful God indeed--weighty, very wealthy, very worthy, very great, very important. God has every right to demand that we pay attention to Him, that we honor Him and respect Him. How much weight does God carry in your life? How important, how wonderful is God in your life?
Look unto me, and be ye saved,
all
the ends of the earth:
for I am God, and
there is none else.
