The Dark World of Bats

In the dark world inhabited by bats, sight is not very important. Some two hundred years ago a scientist discovered that the sense of hearing is more important to a bat in flight than its sense of touch or sight. He found that even with their eyelids sealed, bats could fly through a maze of threads without touching the threads. Later scientists discovered that bats send out a high frequency sound that cannot be heard by the human ear. These sounds bounce off objects and are heard in return by the bat. The bat judges the distance between itself and an object by the time it takes for the sound to bounce back. (This is the same principle on which radar operates except that radar uses radio waves instead of sound waves.)

We who are born again through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ live in a dark world also. It is a world filled with sin and wrongdoing. It is a world that is out of touch and out of step with God. People today do their own thing and leave God out. They don't know God and don't want to know Him. We who do know Him and desire to know Him more need a guidance system. Our ordinary senses of sight and touch and hearing are not enough to lead us in the paths of God's righteousness. God has given us another way.

God has placed His Holy Spirit inside of the sinner who believes or trusts in His Son the Lord Jesus Christ. God the Holy Spirit teaches us to pray, to cry out to God for help in time of need. God says, "Call upon me and I will answer you," "Call unto Me in the day of trouble and I will hear you and you will glorify Me." Believers have a radar system through which they can direct their prayers to heaven, and be heard, and receive an answer in return.

The problems and difficulties of life are not hard for the trusting believer. God promises, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths" (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Dear friend, do you have such a relationship to God?

Do you know Him?
